Ephesians Study Lesson 9

Sorry this is so late guys. by the way I wont have many new posts for a while.

Basically we went over Ephesians 4 and talked.

The main point was that you were lost in sin with no hope of salvation but God accepted you into His family, that justice was met for our Sins by Jesus Christ, and that every good work we do is acceptable in God's sight because "your works are not your own, but are a gift of God".

Also you cannot separate love and doctrine.

Lastly doctrine effects every area of life.

Ephesians Study Lesson 8

Hey, this next lesson was very similar to lesson 7 so I decided not to put a ton on this one.

Ephesians 3
1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,
If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:
How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)
Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.
Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:
12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.
13 Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.
14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

In Galations 3:16-25 we learn the old covenant "laws" were to be our teacher
16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

 Here we have more on the old covenant passing away. Hebrews 8:1-6

Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.
For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:
Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.
But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

Hebrews 9:11-14

11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Hebrews 10:1-4

For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

One thing I will say is in the Old Testament when the high priest went into the Holy of Holys once a year he wore a rope around his waist because, if he did something wrong and was struck down no one was going in after him. In contrast because of Christ we can come boldly before God t commune and speak to Him.

Ephesians Study Lesson 7

I am sorry this is late guys I have had a full week.

Last week we read chapter 2:11-22, Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

We mostly went over verse 12.

the Covenants of Promise in verse 12 is talking about what separated (Christian) Jew from (Christian) Gentile. Thing like circumcision, food laws, the priests, the Temple, and just about an law about blood (the law of not eating blood or eating things strangled still stands) . As it says ,You were once far off but have been brought near.

The New Testament could also be translated the new covenant.

Don't think thou that means that all the laws of the Old Testament have been done away with.
On the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5 : 17 "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil."

In Genesis 17:7  "And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee."  and all that basically means is "I shall be your God and You shall be My people." That is the basis of the Covenant, and it still stands today.

If you are wondering how to know that  circumcision has been replaced by baptism look at Colossians 2 11- 14 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Now we will look at some other verses

Mark 16:16  "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned." and Luke 23:39-43, " And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise."
these  verses show us you must believe to be saved but not be baptized but baptism is the sign of the covenant so you should do it.

 Deuternomy 30:1-6 shows that without baptism of the heart physical baptism is nothing.  "And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither the Lord thy God hath driven thee,
And shalt return unto the Lord thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul;
That then the Lord thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the Lord thy God hath scattered thee.
If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will the Lord thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee:
And the Lord thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.
And the Lord thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.
And the Lord thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies, and on them that hate thee, which persecuted thee.
And thou shalt return and obey the voice of the Lord, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day.
And the Lord thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good: for the Lord will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers:
10 If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.
11 For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off.
12 It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
14 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.
15 See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;
16 In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it."

Exodus34:5-7 tells us more about why things like sacrifice were done away with.
"For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins."
and Psalm 103:8-19
"The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.
He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.
10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.
12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.
13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.
14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.
15 As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.
17 But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;
18 To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.
19 The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all."
and Mathew19:14
"But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven."

This shows that your blessings and the covenant extend generations after you, thus you must consider even your youngest baby within the Covenant of Promise and deserve baptism.

On a last note I will talk of faith.
Look at Mark 10:15
"Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein."

This can be is mostly figurative speech, meaning, that we must believe the whole of scripture without necessarily understanding it, but it also points to the fact that yes children under the covenant have received the Holy Spirit and that they do partake with us in the blessings of covenant of Christ.
Though you must remember to consider also Ephesians 4:14
"That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;"

This is telling you there are false teachings and you need to learn to compare everything to scripture before immediately believing it.

Ephesians Study Lesson 6

This week we went over Ephesians 2: 8-22

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

So here we go, we are saved by faith. So what is faith? well it is more than just belief because then many who believe the Bible yet deny it for some reason would be saved and even demons believed Jesus was the Messiah. It is more than that. It is belief and trust.

(Proverbs 3: 5-6)
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

now to skip on to verses 9- 10 as you see we can not boast in what we do as they are God's
(Galatians 6:14)
14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

Tough you do have to admit you want to do good works for the blessings of God and try to work for them.

OK so for a slightly different topic I move to 11 - 22.
These verses are here because there was enmity between Christian Jews and Christian Gentiles.
Christian Jews wanted Christian Gentiles to follow the "Old Covenant" laws(circumcision, sacrifices, Passover, etc.) though the Gentiles were not supposed to as the Jews themselves were given a 40 year transition period before the were to stop.(transition ended in the destruction of the temple).  This basically describes how the Christian Gentiles were fellow citizens in the Faith.

Well that's it for now. Have a blessed day

Ephesians Study : Lesson 5

I'm sorry this one was so late I went to church camp over the last week and wasn't able to put it up.

In the last lesson we went over the end of chapter 1 and a little bit of chapter 2.
Ephesians 1:15-23
15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,
16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

In verse 17 you should notice the Trinity ex. Jesus Christ, Father of glory, spirit of wisdom(Holy Spirit).Verse 20 speaks of the resurrection and ascension of Christ.
In verses 21 when it speaks of principality, power, might, and  dominion some believe it is referring to angels and the hierarchy of them. They reasoning behind this is because we were made a little lower than the angels (Psalm 8 :4-5 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.)and we have gained an inheritance through Christ and rule with Him since we are the Body of Christ,the Church, with which He communes as stated in verse 18 and Hebrews 2. While it may be true I am not sure about it: though, it still does apply to the other meanings having to do with the rulers of the earth.

Now for Chapter 2's verses:
1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

Verse 1 talks about the regeneration of our souls through by the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ.

Verse 2 talks about the prince of power of the air. This is referring to Zeus the Greek god of the sky. One thing you must realize is that back then demons were much more prevalent as God had aloud them to roam for various reasons.  Many of the false gods were probably demons wanting to get the praise which God truly deserved: though, some gods were merely idols. Back in the days of the Roman Empire the worship of "the gods" was quite prevalent and  confusing, as you had to know what sacrifices to give to what god for what reasons and if you were not careful if wanna of the gods(demons) was angry at another "god" you could be killed or cursed because even though you did what you were supposed to, you sacrificed to Poseidon while Zeus was angry at him so Zeus doesn't like what you did. In the modern world demons are less prevalent because Christ bound Satan after His death and resurrection and thus the power of the devil is more limited.

Verse 3 explains that in Christ we have all been changed.

Verse 4 In this verse the most important word is "but"  because it shows how we are sinful but he decided to save us anyway. This was a foreign concept to the Greeks and Romans as they did not truly believe in an afterlife the closest thing they had to salvation was if a "god" thought you good enough to come live with him. They loved the idea of being saved but hated the idea "flesh" is good. You see they believed if all flesh is evil "it does not matter what I do with my body" because all flesh is evil; thus. the people had to give up adultery, gluttony, lusts, and all kinds of perversions of the flesh.

Verse 5 This verse talks about how we have been save by God's grace alone. For we were dead in sin, no dead man if you offered him life could accept it only if you could give him life it would be your choice it is not like he'd be like"Um , no I won't come back to life, because I don't want to." he could choose to kill himself afterwards but he could not refuse his resurrection. Its like when Jesus called Lazarus from the grave.  Lazarus rose and came out. He had no choice for God had commanded it.

Now to talk a little about salvation. You must remember the Father Chose us before the foundation of the world, Christ died for us, redeemed us, and sent the Holy Spirit of Life to us, and while Christ's death was sufficient for the entire world it was only intended for the elect.
God has granted us grace and salvation which can not be lost.

Also remember to show love to others by rebuking them in wisdom and love being humble. Do not be disheartened if they do not listen for after showing him his sin it is now between him and God. Remember the foolish despise wise instruction but the wise man listens and increases in wisdom. If they bring up the "judge not lest you be judged" remember this John 7:24

Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

If you have a similar problem you may have another friend tell him while you deal with yours Matthew 7:3-5
 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

But always remember to speak the truth in love.

Now go blessed and content in Jesus our savior knowing that the Father loves His children and he shall never forget you and shall love you always. Amen

Ephesians Study Lesson 4

This lesson we went over Ephesians 1:1-11 again. Basically this will  be a small overview with some new stuff.

1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:
Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

So who are the saints? Well saints literally means holy ones or those set apart.
Also "Church" means assembly.
Thus this was sent to an assembly of holy men.

In  verse 2 it says grace(greek)be to you (grace is usually a gift you get that is given even though you have disobeyed) and peace(hebrew)

Ok now for a little change in subject to adoption and predestination.

In the Old Testament, when Abraham had been placed under covenant by God, he had to be circumcised, not only him but all his sons and male servants. you see the covenant was extended to his family and workers. The same applied in the New Testament every-time a specific instance of a baptism is listed it was to him and his household.
All the people had to do was believe, love, and obey Christ.

As we have already covered predestination I'd advise you to look back upon that lesson once you get the chance. Basically God has planned all things, but this does not impare free-will because we do not know His plan.
We were purchased with a price. Purchased not rented or any other nonsense God sends the Holy Spirit to take reign of your life steering you in the right direction. We can find some assurance in John 15 verses 3-4,6, and 11

Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

Ephesians1 is also full of doctrine you must know verses:
4 = Justification
5 = Adoption
6 = reconciliation
7 = redemption

I'm going to give you a link this time so you can learn about the five points of Calvanism.(the five point of Calvanism were made countered the five points of Armenianism and show what is true)

Blessings  to you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Ok so at the last study we read over the book of Ephesians and everyone stated they're  favorite verse of Ephesians and why. We were then given homework to find out  how many times Ephesians has the word love in it. You cannot use electronics to look it up you must figure-it-out yourself by readying Ephesians all the way through no scanning or slacking off. So thats it and  May the Lord bless you and show you His love.
